Top TV Grannies

Flavorwire lists the top tv grandma's - Betty from Punky Brewster!! Estelle Winslow! I had to highly disagree however with putting Lucille Bluth at number two, she will always be number one in my book, and Buster's.

John Cazale

I really like that HBO is putting this doc out there, John Cazale is so interesting and tragic - dying from cancer at age 42, immediately following his role in The Deer Hunter. He was engaged to Meryl Streep, and acted in some of the most iconic films from the 70s. It's great to see HBO bringing him to the spotlight.

BodyRock.tv

I've been using this site for a couple years now for exercises, inspiration, and ideas on working out. She's progressively gotten super muscular, but don't be deterred - her workouts are totally manageable and effective.

The Sting, Robert Redford, and Paul Newman

I watched The Sting today, and wanted to call out that Robert Redford didn't actually see the movie until 2004, when his grandson suggested they watch it. So funny to me that he received a Best Actor nomination for his role but didn't see the movie until 25 yrs later.

Also wanted to share that a while back, I read a blurb from Paul Newman on the secret to his marriage - "We're respectfully lustful, and lustfully respectful." It stayed with me because it sounds so simple, and yet at the same time all encompassing.

Friends with Money

I was looking for more Nicole Holofcener and found this little gem from 2006. She does so well with dynamic female characters, very accessible and true in interesting ways.  Didn't expect to like this as much as I did.

Holidaze

I came upon this pic at Apartment 34 and almost started drooling, can't you just imagine falling into this bed and smelling the newly cleaned sheets - given away by the wash wrinkles? And I bet it's insanely quiet there..with a steam shower close by and lots of sun. For some reason the holiday season has been kind of a grind this year, and I'm starting to feel burnt. Hoping for more cheer and less blear this coming week as we close in on the big day, Christmas with my family is always the best when it finally arrives.

Philippe Vogelenzang photog

Called "Girls". Really into the subtle masculinity in both gaze and style, click to see large.

Noted.

A Single Man

Finally saw this, and the chemistry and aesthetics were simply stunning. Towards the end I worried that it would turn cliche and result in a predictable storyline, but it was fully and completely redeemed in the final throes. And while the visuals are now notoriously beautiful, I was also struck by the human emotion that felt almost palpable, resulting in an overall sensory experience. It can be summed in my favorite line "The only time in my life that has mattered and that I will remember, has been when I've truly connected with another human being." Or in this case, a movie.

Wow, new life guys!

NASA announced that they've found a new life form in Mono Lake, CA that isn't built from the six compounds that everything on Earth is made of - carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus & sulfur. This new wild and crazy guy uses arsenic to build himself, going beyond what scientists know to be true for all living organisms on the planet. What this means is that our understanding of how life can be created and grow is completely redefined, and scientists will now look for organisms built on other elements that may have been overlooked before. "It's like saying that we may be looking for new life in the wrong places with the wrong methods." crazy/exciting!

Cashmere Undies

Such a cozy idea, but you're committing to washing these babies by hand every time you wear..maybe not the worst trade off I suppose. Also the pic of the two girls on the toboggan is straaange..
