I kept reading about Pinterest and recently joined - so lovely! This is my homepage. You can follow others, and pin anything on the web that's of interest, it's like a consolidated one stop shop for inspiration.

What Katie Ate

Omg! Check out this blog from Sydney Australia - everything she makes looks amazing! I am drooling and fighting envious feelings, I want these kitchen skills! Which may require quitting my job to cook all day..

Bill Murray on his whisper at the end of Lost in Translation

“I guess the answer is, there’s somethin’ that makes it impossible to tell,” he says. “But I’ll tell ya a good story about it. I’m gettin’ on the ferry at Martha’s Vineyard, and some guy yells out from across the way, ‘Bill, what’d ya say to her?’ Everyone hears him ask, and I pause for a second with my mouth open and start to speak. And as I start to speak, the foghorn sounds, about a twenty-five-second blast, and I just”—Murray starts moving his lips silently—“I acted it out like I was saying something really sincere, and the crowd laughed so hard. It was great. I couldn’t have bought that moment.” via

This kid knows what's up

Guessing he ran the family biz by age 10.

An even better note!

I love Gilda Radner! And was so psyched to read this insightful and lovely statement this morning. An excellent part two to my note from yesterday! via

A thought

“One is happy as a result of one’s own efforts, once one knows of the necessary ingredients of happiness — simple tastes, a certain degree of courage, self-denial to a point, love of work, and, above all, a clear conscience. Happiness is no vague dream, of that I now feel certain.”
— George Sand
via. I keep reading about how to achieve happiness, especially now that it's cold and gray everyday, and I like this note because it indicates personal responsibility. Everyone always seems to be reaching for "happiness", as it exists in their own experience, and I think it can come in many forms, with the individual very often dictating when it decides to show up.

It's here..

Been here, but you know, I've been busy. As I said last year, I really like setting new goals - year round - helps redirect your focus to ensure maximum productivity. And maximum productivity is where I'd like to operate! I wanted to share my early 2011 goals because I'm always inspired by other's resolutions, and maybe my thoughts will spur some thoughts on your end. Soo, a couple things I'd like to accomplish include - moving into a new place, advancing at work, continue learning at school and in the kitchen, share more, work on relationships across the board, watch more movies, read more history, give give give more, and act more selflessly, ride bikes, write letters, exercise, travel, lighten up bc it's not that serious, hang with friends, drink more, take more pictures, stretch more, etc etc..! photo via

Dancers Among Us

Great photo series from Jordan Matter, click thru for the making of video.

Some reads

I'm almost finished with this and highly recommend it - in conjunction with Omnivore's Dilemma, Pollan provides a pretty comprehensive look at food and diet today. And not to get preachy, but in my opinion food/diet is a large part of a holistically healthy lifestyle, making these books an imperative read for everyone. Why wouldn't you want to be well educated on the food you're putting in your body throughout every day? Read and enjoy, friends!

Next on my list: Salt, 1491, Team of Rivals, and finishing Just Kids. PS - I want a kindle! To cut down on buying/lugging all of these..

Freeman's, Veniero's, and a birthday

I'm 28! As of yesterday. To celebrate, on Friday we had dinner at Freeman's (yum), and dessert at Veniero's (yum times 100). Sunday was dim sum at Mandarin Court (old stand by), and free asscat show in the evening. I loved every second!!

Weekend Cooking

For good luck in the New Year (which they're supposed to help with), I made black eyed peas this weekend from 101cookbooks. They were kooky man, in a good way.
Part two was lemony yellow split peas from this site for lunches. Both dishes were simple, clean and quick to make, the best kind of recipe.

I also love this Vogue editorial

I love mixed media/collage

Compiling pieces, and putting them together in a new way that expresses something different. A particularly lovely example via.

Weekend Cooking

Tried this chard and white bean stew from Smitten Kitchen this week, and the dry white wine added another dimension that I hadn't cooked with before. It was deemed "more French" than my normal cooking. That means good.

I also made a thyme grain salad with red cabbage that sounds weird but is so yummy. I've been putting the whole thing over kale for lunch this week. The roasted walnuts are a must.

It's the Final Countdooown

Of my 27th year. But really I just wanted an excuse to reference Arrested Development. And post this pic of Buster.
