Two Lovers

I saw this around this time last year. It's really beautifully filmed, somber hues during a cold winter in the far out neighborhood of Brighton Beach. The characters are a little tough to identify with, but it's one of those movies that you have to just sit back and take in - the scenery, the people, and the story. Overall, it's a very pretty film.

Thorn in the Heart

Went to see this with Floating Heads on Monday bc Dina wasn't interested, and I enjoyed it. It's a documentary Michel Gondry did of his aunt's life working as a school teacher in the French countryside. Definitely a personal piece, but I think it's interesting to see families and explore how people choose to live their lives. After the screening, Gondry sat on stage and talked about his work for over an hour, best part!! Really interesting to hear about how he arrived at different artistic choices. Can't wait to see The Green Hornet!

French Connection

I'm loving the latest French Connection campaign, it feels so classic and European. There's a billboard in the west village that's reminiscent of the ladies and gentlemen of the forties, who dressed well no matter the occasion, and were full on adults by the age of twenty five. Respectable. Not to mention I love a man in a beard.

Weekend Cooking

Today I made two Dana Treat recipes, and these chickpeas were the highlight. Basically a warm salad, with cilantro, fennel and cumin seeds, crushed red pepper, and yogurt dressing. Lots of flava.

I also made this cauliflower and zucchini dish that I wish I was more psyched about. The long ingredient list sounded so promising, but somehow mine isn't tasting like much, and I'm not sure why. I added red beans for a little more protein, and it's good, just not the fist pumping dinner I anticipated..

I know I'm dating how young my parents are here, but I heard this in a cab on the way home tonight and it was so sweet and sentimental. What a great song.
