Classic Esquire Covers

George Lois talks about his most controversial covers in NY Mag, and I thought this one was so interesting. This is the Native American who originally posed for the nickel in 1913. In this 1964 issue, Esquire was running two Native American related articles and Lois decided to see if he could track down Chief John Big Tree. He found him on a reservation in Syracuse, 87 years old, "six foot two, in good health, and beautiful." So neat.
